About MockStar
MockStar is a free interview preparation tool for job candidates. It combines three things that usually live in separate places: a timed interview question practice tool, a step-by-step behavioral interview prep builder based on the STAR method, and a follow-up email generator for after the interview.
Everything runs in your browser. There is no account, no paywall, and nothing you type — your answers, your drafts, company names — is ever sent to a server.
How our content is made
The question bank and guides follow a written editorial process:
- Real interview questions first. The bank focuses on behavioral and situational questions that recruiters actually ask, organized by role and difficulty.
- Original sample answers. Every sample answer is written for this site in-house, then reviewed for accuracy, tone, and length (150–250 words, with concrete numbers and a clear STAR arc) before publication.
- Mistakes and follow-ups, not just answers. Each question page lists the common mistakes interviewers watch for and the follow-up probes to expect, because that is what separates rehearsal from reading.
- Clean sourcing. If we ever adapt material from permissively licensed open-source projects, it is recorded per-question and attributed on our licenses page. ShareAlike-licensed and unlicensed content is never copied.
Privacy by design
MockStar uses self-hosted, cookieless analytics (Umami) to count page views and anonymous feature usage. Free-text inputs — your STAR drafts, email recipient names, company names — never leave your device and are never part of any analytics event.
